From Revelation to Redaction: The MAGA Meltdown Over Epstein
Okay, so Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell, Kash Patel, Laura Loomer, Dan Bongino, Liz Wheeler, Steve Bannon, Mike Johnson (sort of), Alex Jones, and Nick Fuentes — to name a few of the MAGA faithful — have vocalized dissatisfaction with Trump’s refusal to release the Epstein files (which don’t exist, but were nonetheless said to have been created by Barack Obama and other prominent Democrats).
In response, and seemingly to quell the whole thing, Donald Trump and Pam Bondi have petitioned the courts for the grand jury testimony that preceded the Epstein prosecution. That’s not even remotely the same thing. First, there is considerable legal debate over whether grand jury transcripts should be produced. Grand juries are, by definition, secret proceedings. Even if the transcripts were released, they would be heavily redacted — to protect the names of the innocent, so to speak.
But the prosecution of Epstein is not what’s in question. For years, QAnon and MAGA loyalists have insisted that these files — especially the infamous “client list” — would prove the existence of Pizzagate and expose people like Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres, Chrissy Teigen, and even Joe Biden.
More importantly, releasing grand jury transcripts would do nothing to advance the narrative of what's allegedly in the so-called files.
The purpose of a grand jury is to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to charge someone with a crime and proceed to trial. It does not decide guilt or innocence — that happens at trial with a regular jury. And if the grand jury testimony is released, it would go to Donald Trump and Pam Bondi, who would then get to pick and choose which parts they want to release.
Most importantly, as noted earlier, the grand jury only decides whether or not to indict. So the only thing that could come from aggressively reviewing or analyzing the grand jury transcripts is the argument that Epstein shouldn’t have been prosecuted at all.
The real question is: Why, all of a sudden, are Donald Trump and Pam Bondi (who once claimed the files were on her desk) now saying the files never existed?
What up with that?
I’m just saying.
